It’s about the journey.

5 years and 3 months…

That’s how long ago I decided I wanted more for myself. The time I decided I wasn’t going to be overweight and out of shape anymore.

5 years and 3 months of imperfect effort and execution. Weeks and months where I felt frustrated and would stop doing the work that I knew I needed to do.

If I could go back and change any of those days… I wouldn’t. You heard me right, I wouldn’t change a single day.

If it wasn’t for the last 5 years and 3 months of struggle, failure, and growth I wouldn’t be where I am today. I wouldn’t be in the best shape of my life so far physically, mentally, and spiritually.

If there is anything the last 5 years and 3 months has taught me about life, it’s this…

Life is best lived when you fall in love with the journey of growth instead of the destination you seek.

I have been known for being an unsatisfied person. I can accomplish a big goal like running a marathon or completing a Spartan race and within a day be looking for the next big thing to make me satisfied.

I’ve learned that the THINGS and the EVENTS only leave me feeling satisfied for a short period of time. I find myself feeling most satisfied when I reflect on where I started, where I am now, and the journey I took to get where I am.

You see, it’s the journey of life and the process of growth where you find the most satisfaction. The satisfaction is found in setting your mind to something big and hard, doing the work required to get there and then realizing that the goal you focused on wasn’t even the biggest one you achieved.

It’s who you became in the process of pursuing that goal. My encouragement to you if you are just starting… be where your feet are.

Be in the moment.

Be aware of the incremental steps you take each day to move forward.

I promise you’ll feel more satisfied in your journey of life if you stay in the present.

Now this isn’t me saying you shouldn’t dream and set goals, but it is me saying that once you set the goals and put the plans in place to reach them that you should focus on what’s right in front of you more than what’s down the road.

If you’re always just looking to the future for what you want, you’ll never be satisfied where you are. No amount of money, friends, races, or achievements will ever replace a grateful and present heart.

Fall in love with the journey, it makes life so much more enjoyable.
