The Power Of One
As of the last 3 months I’ve really felt in a rut. I’ve felt no motivation to workout and have been more than lackadaisical in my nutrition.
I’ve gone through these periods of time where working out isn’t fun and all I want to do is eat junk. The problem with periods like this, is that they usually feed into growing worse and worse habits.
What was once one cheat day turned into a week with only 1 good day. From taking 1 or 2 rest days to not working out at all. From taking my dog on daily 45 minute walks to just a couple 10 minute walks a day.
I know I am lazy at heart because when push comes to shove I’d rather turn a movie on and sit on the couch.
The one thing I’ve implemented recently that has really been helping me is this…
THE RULE OF ONE - When you don’t want to do something, pick ONE small habit that fits whatever it is you are trying to do, and set a goal to complete it today.
Not that you want to do it every single day of the week or month, but just set a goal to do that ONE thing TODAY.
Small, consistent actions over a long period of time create huge momentum that can push you to achieve huge goals. The thing I forget often is that without the SMALL actions the BIG goals can’t be achieved.
It doesn’t matter who you are or how motivated you are. You are bound to find yourself in a rut at some point in your life and in some way. My encouragement to you is, as quickly as possible, to find that ONE action and do it.
The sooner you do it the sooner you can get out of that rut.
The sooner you can get out of that rut, the sooner you can move towards who you truly want to become.
When you are in that rut, focus on doing that ONE small action TODAY. Not tomorrow, not next Monday, and not next month. Just use THE RULE OF ONE TODAY to begin getting out of that rut.
